where the magic happens.

Easter makes no sense.

today we're reading Luke 24:1-49
read today's text
What a week.
We witnessed our King's arrival.
We witnessed our King's rage.
We witnessed our King's attentiveness.
We witnessed our King's brotherly love.
We witnessed our King's death.
And now, we witness our King defeat death.
It's funny because to the disciples the idea of the resurrection actually occurring was almost too good to be true.
The idea that their King, their brother, their friend, was telling the truth all along.
So often that becomes our mentality too.
We know the story.
We go through it again and again and when we get to the ending:
It still doesn't seem real.
I get it though.
It doesn't make any sense.
Why would a perfect God do all of this for us?
Even so, why would He die and then come back for us?
It seems like there needs to be an elaborate reasoning to prove this.
Yet it's so simple.
It's love.
The love of God doesn't make sense.
Unconditional, steadfast love does not make sense.
Love for those who praise us and those who betray us does not make sense.
Love for those who like us and those who hate us does not make sense.
Love for those who believe in Him and those who reject Him does not make sense.
But why?
God's sovereignty conflicts with our need for things to make sense.
We are so obsessed with things making sense.
We are so obsessed with things having perfect reasoning.
The beautiful thing about the Easter story is that it doesn't make sense.
Honestly if it did make sense, I wouldn't like the ending.
Because for it to make sense would mean that we would receive the death we deserve.
I would never receive a life with the Father.
I would never receive the love of Jesus Christ.
I would never have the life I have.
So praise Jesus that Easter doesn't make sense.
Praise God that His sovereignty doesn't align with what I think is best.
Praise the Lord for the resurrection power that makes no sense.
For death is defeated and our King is alive.
